Directory services.

A network service that determines all the resources on a network so that they are accessible to users and applications. Resources can include email addresses,computers and peripheral devices such as printers. users of a directory service on a network should be able to use all resources without needing to know details of its physical location.

Heteroenous networks.

A network that includes computer and other devices from different manufacturers. For example, local are networks [LANs]that connect PC's running Windows with computers running UNIX are heterogenous.
